What is Pilates for horse riders? Rider specific Pilates utilises a series of low impact strengthening, stretching and balance exercises to optimise the body's equilibrium, strength and flexibility. Pilates will teach you how to control and isolate each part of your body, thus will improve your bodily awareness and riding position. The low impact, non-competitive nature of Pilates means that it is beneficial for everyone regardless of age, shape or fitness level. Our physiotherapists are trained to adapt Pilates to meet the rehabilitation requirements of those with pain or dysfunction.
Our one to one, or two to one sessions will ensure the Pilates programme is tailored to meet your individual needs.
How does Pilates help horse riders? Muscular tightness or weakness around the pelvis, hips or back can lead to twisting, tilting or bracing due to the body's compensatory mechanisms. This combined with poor balance and coordination may lead to a heavy uneven seat and difficulties for the rider to maintain an elastic even contact. As a result the horse's movement and performance may be affected. Rider focused Pilates utilises specific rider based exercises to improve rider performance, subsequently allowing the horse to perform to its greatest potential.
